In the Beginning: Created by the Word of God

Before there was time, light, oceans, or sky-there was God. Genesis begins by revealing the foundation of our faith: God is the Creator of all things, and everything exists because of His power, design, and grace.

God Spoke-and Creation Responded

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” — Genesis 1:1, NKJV

God did not form creation out of need or struggle. He spoke, and the universe obeyed. His Word alone brought structure out of chaos and life out of nothingness.

“Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light.” — Genesis 1:3, NKJV

This is the same powerful Word that still changes hearts today. The God who said “Let there be light” is the same God who brings light into our spiritual darkness.

Creation Reveals God’s Order and Intentionality:

As we move through Genesis 1, we see a God of purpose. Creation was not random. Each day was crafted with intention:

  • Light and darkness

  • Oceans and sky

  • Land, plants, and trees

  • Sun, moon, and stars

  • Birds and sea creatures

  • Animals

  • And finally… humanity

God created everything in perfect order. After each act of creation, He declared it good. And when He formed humanity, His creation reached its highest point.

“So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” — Genesis 1:27, NKJV

Being made in His image means we were created with purpose, identity, and value. We were formed to reflect His character, walk in His presence, and steward His creation.

God Blessed the Beginning-and He Blesses Us Still:

After creating mankind, God blessed them:

“Then God blessed them, and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it.’” — Genesis 1:28, NKJV

From the very beginning, God’s heart toward humanity has been one of blessing, goodness, and relationship. He placed Adam and Eve in a garden He Himself planted—a reminder that God always provides before He commands.

“The LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed.” — Genesis 2:8, NKJV

God didn’t just create-He cared.

We Serve the Same Creator Today:

Even now, the God of Genesis is still the God who forms, restores, and brings life.

“For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen.” — Romans 11:36, NKJV

Everything begins with Him.
Everything is sustained by Him.
Everything finds purpose in Him.

Why Genesis Still Matters:

Genesis is not just a story-it is our foundation:

  • It tells us who God is: sovereign Creator, intentional Designer, loving Father.

  • It tells us who we are: created on purpose, in His image, for His glory.

  • It tells us why we exist: to know Him, walk with Him, and steward His creation.

The beginning of the Bible is the beginning of everything we believe. And just as God spoke light into the world, He desires to speak light into your life today.
